EMC Group awards case study: Implementing an awards programme employees love

Magenta worked closely with EMC Group Real Estate’s and Facilities function in EMEA on several projects. The most complex was the creation and management of an internal awards programme to recognise excellence in facilities management within the EMEA team, which included 14 service partners.

A team effort

This project involved assessing the business’s corporate objectives and consulting the multi-regional team before creating awards categories that aligned with their vision. The awards programme was to be inclusive, easy to get involved in and to promote unity among diverse teams.

The BAFTAS…almost

The awards were named ‘The Greftas’ – using the Group Real Estate and Facilities acronym combined with the Baftas to create a sense of excitement. The categories were drawn up to be applicable for all employees across the EMEA region, so everybody had a fair chance to enter and win.

The next step was to think about engaging the audience by designing a range of promotional communications to encourage individuals, teams and external service partners to enter the awards, or nominate individual entries.

We created a comprehensive e-shot programme to target the different groups. It was important that communications were inclusive to encourage as many entries as possible and we created a coveted awards initiative.

Magenta created a blueprint for setting up and managing the judging process with defined criteria for each category.

We also worked with EMC to manage the event on the night, which was hosted in Germany at first and Ireland in the second year.

Reaping the rewards

This was the first internal awards scheme that EMC Group had ever had. Its inaugural awards welcomed 18 entries across three categories and saw a mix of employee and partner supplier contributions, strengthening business relationships and support among colleagues. Colleagues felt valued and it marked employer appreciation. The second awards improved on that with 22 entries whittled down to 12 finalists.

The success of the awards programme meant that Magenta was awarded another project, this time to event manage the annual EMC Group Real Estate and Facilities summit across different European cities. From Frankfurt to Cork, Magenta facilitated topical sessions on a range of issues including presenting survey results, the future of work and local service issues. We also created a summit newspaper with an event overview which was distributed on the final day of each event.
