We might well be fast approaching the middle of August (and yes – I too am just as baffled about how fast this year has gone as you are), but with at least a month or two of nice weather to come, there is plenty to keep you busy in and around Brighton throughout August and September. So, in no particular order…
‘Let there be cheese!’ – Hosted in Victoria Gardens in the heart of Brighton, the Cheese Fest comes to Brighton on Saturday the 12th August and is a chance for fellow cheese-lovers to embark on a dairy-feast. Tickets are required to gain access, allowing access at various points throughout the day. Prices vary from £3-5 plus £1 fee and are attainable here.
2. Brighton Zipwire
This opened just a few short weeks ago and has already become a big success amongst tourists and locals alike. Sitting at 27m above sea level and spanning over 300m, the attraction provides a beautiful outlook across Brighton beach.
3. Beer Gardens
Brighton is famed for its glorious pub-scene. From the town centre to Kemp Town to the North Laine and the seafront – you name it, there will be a pub within minutes walking distance. Most boast quaint and vibrant gardens where you can enjoy a wide variety of beers, ciders, wines spirits and cuisines. So why not take a venture out to find the best ones!
4. The beach/pier
Voted one of the top 10 city beach breaks in the country, the Brighton seafront has a lot to offer. Namely, the stunning coastline, historical burnt pier, numerous bars and cafés and of course – the famous Brighton Pier with arcades, rides and food stands.
Although the British Airways i360 has caused great controversy and divided opinions across Sussex and Brighton, it has got to be worth a try. Glide up 138m above the Brighton coastline to enjoy uninterrupted views across the South Downs, Portsmouth, and on a good day – even the Isle of Wight.
Brighton’s Big Screen, now in its sixth consecutive year is the UK’s largest open air beachfront cinema, showcasing blockbuster movies, classic films and sporting events. It is always a pleasure running this event in our hometown and seeing it add to the already bustling and culture-filled summer seafront.
7. The Lanes
Easily one of my favourite parts of Brighton, the Lanes are a truly unique and beautiful part of the city. Home to some of the most quaint, trendy and quirky little shops you’ll ever see – you can just get lost on your venture through the narrow little streets for hours on end.
8. Lorde at the Brighton Centre
Critically acclaimed international superstar Lorde, brings her New Zealand charm and pop anthems to the Brighton Centre on Saturday 30th September. Currently in the midst of a manic summer of touring latest album ‘Melodrama’ around the world’s festivals, she returns to perform a short 15-date European tour in the Autumn. Look for tickets here.
Also taking place on Saturday 30th September is Boundary festival, returning to Stanmer Park for its second year. Recently announced headliners Chase & Status take centre stage, with other artists such as Hannah Wants and My Nu Leng also appearing across the event.
On a tour of the UK, the Prosecco Festival stops in Brighton from the 6th-7th October at the Clarendon Centre. Tickets cost less than £10 and with them, you gain access to a vast array of prosecco, cava and champagne from around the world. It’s looking like an event you don’t want to miss!
