It’s official! After completing my three-month probation I’m a fully-fledged member of the M-people, and I couldn’t be happier! My life at Magenta started at the end of July, one week after the team moved into our wonderful new office space. It’s been a challenging and rewarding three months as the office has not come without its teething problems. Electrics going, toilet not flushing and the internet going down, to name but a few. Our new space has taught me a lot about building management and has truly kept me on my toes. I don’t mind though, as my many years of hospitality work has armed with the skills to handle just about anything!
Growing up my parents ran their own successful restaurant and I truly believe that my many years of waitressing has taught me how to stay calm and focused and to always expect the unexpected! If I could impart any advice on to young people entering the working world it would be to get some experience in hospitality under their belt, before pursuing their careers. Thinking on your feet, multi-tasking, prioritising, learning to deal with difficult customers and building relationships with co-workers are just a few of the amazing benefits, all of which are transferable to so many aspects of our lives.
So, when I’m not overseeing building repairs, I am also responsible for organising our team building events and away days. This year, it was decided we would head to Lisbon. With a rough plan in place it was up to me to pull it all together. I absolutely love this element of my job, as organising itineraries and events is a real passion of mine. And can I just say, how incredibly lucky I feel to work in an environment where we get treated so unbelievably well. We have the best boss! The trip was such a wonderful opportunity to get to know the team outside of the office, and what a delight it was to spend time with them all. With Christmas only around the corner I’m super excited about our Christmas gathering (watch this space) and getting the office looking festive!
For me, this is a dream job. I get to utilise my strong organisational skills whilst managing the office and the team. No two days are ever the same for me. And today is a perfect example of that, my morning was spent designing and ordering Magenta themed sweet treats (I don’t want to give too much away), my afternoon in a meeting with an IT solutions expert and now I’m writing this blog while managing any other tasks coming in from the team. I can’t wait to see what Magenta has in store for me over the next quarter!
