Looking back: The birth of Magenta Associates

This year was a significant one for Magenta Associates. I set up this business 13 years ago after spotting a gap in the market. I wanted to create a workplace that reflected my values and principles. A truly good place to work.

This year we announced becoming an Employee Owned Trust, putting the business in the hands of the people who know it best; the M people. This helped secure our future and protect those guiding principles on which Magenta was founded on.

This has prompted a bit of self-reflection on my time with Magenta and in doing so, I decided to revisit some of our earlier blog posts on the website. It’s provided some interesting reading on many themes, some of which we’re still talking about today! So, where better to start than at the beginning? This was the first entry to the website announcing my founding of Magenta Associates back in 2011.

I hope you find this an interesting entry to revisit, as part of an ongoing reflection series.

Cathy Hayward to form Magenta Associates

Cathy Hayward, publishing director of FM World (now Facilitate), the magazine for the British Institute of Facilities Management (now IWFM), has announced she is to leave the publication to set up Magenta Associates, a specialist communications consultancy for the facilities management and business support services sector.

Cathy said “I’ve enjoyed the past seven years working with the BIFM to create and develop the FM World brand, and value the experience and skills I have gained while at FM World and the BIFM. I’ve recently volunteered to help on the London region committee and also on the BIFM Awards communications and marketing category as an awards judge, so my involvement with the BIFM doesn’t end here.”

Magenta Associates will be a specialist communications consultancy for the facilities management sector offering a comprehensive range of bespoke communication services such as PR and communications strategy including social media; research documents and annual reports; brand redesigns and creation of brand guidelines; corporate film production; and events management.

Cathy launched FM World in April 2004 and edited the title for seven years, latterly also as publishing director. After leaving university in the mid-1990s with an English and History degree, Cathy worked for FM service provider Europa before embarking on a journalistic career editing Charity Finance as well as working on business titles such as Financial Management, Supply Management and Unions Today. She has also written for numerous magazines as a freelance journalist including Marketing Week, Soccer Analyst and the IOD’s Director magazine. She holds a Masters degree in journalism.
