Last month, deputy managing director Shahlia Nelson-Rogers visited Brighton-based charity the Clock Tower Sanctuary. She learned about the services they offer to young people facing homelessness, and what Magenta can do to help.
The Sanctuary
As part of Magenta’s ongoing commitment to understanding and supporting the needs of local charities, I recently had the opportunity to visit the Clock Tower Sanctuary in Brighton. Dedicated to helping young people experiencing homelessness, it provides a lifeline for those navigating some of the most challenging periods of their lives.
The Sanctuary serves as a safe space for young people aged 16-25 who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of it in the heart of Brighton. It’s a place where young people can access essential services, including hot meals, showers, laundry facilities, and access to computers.
More than just offering a physical space, the Clock Tower Sanctuary provides a sense of community and safety for those who often feel marginalised. The staff and volunteers work to make sure that every individual is treated with respect and dignity, helping them rebuild their confidence and take steps towards a more secure future.
Many of the individuals the Clock Tower Sanctuary supports have experienced trauma, mental health challenges, and instability, which can make it difficult to access housing, education, and employment. The charity’s team deliver tailored support that helps individuals overcome these barriers.
So what now?
At Magenta, we are passionate about supporting initiatives that make a real difference in our local community. We believe that organisations such as the Clock Tower Sanctuary deserve recognition, support, and partnership to ensure they can continue the vital work they do. We believe that small acts of support can make a big difference.
With that being said, a Magenta team is stepping away from our laptops and our cosy office to sleep on the streets of Brighton for one night this December. Doing this will give us a tiny glimpse into the difficulties young people face when sleeping rough. It’s going to be a challenge. We will be on the seafront, where the breeze can be unforgiving.
So, please think about just how cold the Brighton seafront is in December and help us to help the Clock Tower Sanctuary. You’ll find our JustGiving page right here: https://www.justgiving.com/page/team-magenta-sleeps-out
