Cathy Hayward, Magenta’s managing director, has been awarded the Chartered Institute of Public Relations Post-Graduate Diploma in PR with distinction. Cathy completed the year-long, part-time course in December 2012.
A combination of face-to-face lectures in central London and distance learning, the course covered PR as a management function; theoretical approaches to PR; reputation management; corporate responsibility and stakeholder theory; issues and crisis management; and PR planning.
“Having come from a journalistic background, I was keen to better understand PR theory, as well as practice,” she said. “The CIPR course has given me a solid background in the profession and I also met some fantastic fellow PR professionals from whom I learned a great deal.”
As part of her final project for the diploma, Cathy conducted research into the way the facilities management sector uses social media as a business tool, which will be published shortly.
In addition to the PgDip, which enables her to use the post-nominals MCIPR, Cathy holds a Masters degree with merit in journalism from the University of Westminster and is also an affiliate member of the British Institute of Facilities Management.
