The Magenta team in Lancaster was very pleased to have Charlie Springthorpe join them for a two week internship in August. During her short time with the M People, Charlie wanted to gain real experience of copy writing and get practical insight into PR life and working for an agency.
“Getting started in any career is challenging, particularly in PR, marketing and communications. Magenta is very keen to help people take their first steps into the world of professional communications and to support the growth of the next generation,” said Jackie Bennett Shaw, our senior account manager in the North. “Having Charlie with us has been an absolute pleasure. We have no doubt she will go far and excel in her career.”
Commenting on the experience, Charlie wrote:
After graduating with a degree in advertising and marketing from Lancaster University, I found myself wondering where next?
I’ve always had an interest in PR, but it’s not an area which I’ve specialised in before. When I came across Magenta’s post seeking a summer intern, I knew it was an opportunity that I couldn’t afford to miss.
Magenta’s Lancaster based office is a great place to work and the team were really supportive and friendly, which overall created a great working environment. From day one I was given responsibility and was entrusted to work on briefs from real clients. From blogs and social content to press releases and articles, I felt I was really able to experience what life would be like in the PR sector.
During my second week at Magenta, I had the pleasure of meeting Cathy Hayward, the managing director from the Brighton office. Although her visit was short, it was great to meet Cathy and to learn more about the origins and future of the company.
Overall I would say that being a Magenta intern is an experience you don’t want to miss! I gained valuable insights into the sector, expanded my copywriting portfolio, met a great bunch of people, and most importantly, I had a brilliant time doing it all.
